Pierpaolo Lazzarini’s concept for a translucent luxury yacht measuring 24 meters is called ’embryon’

The 24-meter (79-foot) translucent yacht “Embryon” is the latest creation in Italian designer Pierpaolo Lazzarini’s ongoing investigation of cutting-edge vessels. The project’s name comes from the original 3D model: The designer says, “We work from an embryonic state by keeping the body lines very natural and fluid with incredible hydrodynamic results.” Compared to other boats of a similar size on the market, Lazzarini claims that Embryon is 30% lighter due to its completely dry carbon fiber structure. Additionally, a unique photochromic system that is integrated into the body allows customers to modify the yacht’s midsection’s transparency.

With its three engines?one electric 1260 horsepower drive and one man V12 2000 horsepower engine?Embryon may reach an estimated top speed of 65 knots. Diesel and hydrogen fuel these engines, respectively. With the electric drive operating independently, the boat can sail fully electric up to a maximum speed of 22 knots, which gives it a two-hour range. An electric drive with a reduced speed of 10 knots can run for 4 hours.

The yacht may theoretically be outfitted with three 1260 horsepower electric motors running only on hydrogen in an all-electric configuration. Here, hydrogen fuel tanks are used in place of the diesel tanks. Three Hamilton jet drives?two side steering and one center fixed jet drive?push Embryon in both scenarios.
