This boat concept is so cutting edge that it literally lights up the surrounding sea

This yacht concept by Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven offers what might be the most inventive way to power an electrified boat that has ever been seen.

Its distinctive design, dubbed Albatross, is all about efficiency.

This double-hulled 410-footer uses 40% less energy than a typical yacht of its size while gliding over the water like a catamaran—or, in fact, like its namesake.

The yacht is equipped with three large “wingsails” totaling 10,000 square feet of surface area.

They generate 1200kW of power by themselves when the wind blows, which is sufficient to propel the yacht up to seven knots.

Furthermore, 12,000 square feet of solar panels covering its upper deck can produce 120 kWh of electricity.
