The sky is the limit when it comes to these extreme sailing superyacht designs

Large, fuel-guzzling motor boats have unquestionably dominated the superyacht scene for decades. Even with their complex designers’ and builders’ marketing spiel, many of them have very similar exteriors: a wedding cake in the center, a pool and beach club at the back, and a pointy end.

 

 

 

 

Seeing that many superyacht designers are still experimenting with form and function and haven’t given up on sail is refreshing. We got a very positive response when we spoke with some of the biggest names in boat design.

 

 

Let’s start by anticipating seeing a ton more catamaran designs. “Multihulls are the way of the future for yachting concepts, just because of sustainability,” says renowned yacht designer Espen Oeino, who has created vessels like the 136-foot Flying Fox and the 182-foot REV.
