The International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2018 have shortlisted EAU for the Yacht Concept Over 40 Metres Award

Tjep presents the electric luxury yacht concept known as EAU. Lead designer Frank Tjepkema and his group wanted to create a ship that embodied the evocative characteristics of the ocean itself, pushing the boundaries of simplicity and elegance to the fullest.

EAU seeks to achieve the highest level of cleanliness in both technological and aesthetic aspects. The EAU concept was created with the expectation that advances in electric vehicle technology will have an impact on the yacht construction sector in the near future, leading to an increase in the number of large-scale on-board energy storage and port charging stations. In order to support the essential energy revolution toward electric propulsion, EAU seeks to define a new radical aesthetic and set the stage for the availability of the cleanest luxury motor yachts in the future.

EAU has been precisely planned with a length of 63 meters, a width of 13.5 meters, and a beam of 18 meters. With a speed of 25 knots, Tjep’s proposal boasts 100% electric propulsion. Made of aluminum, the hull and superstructure are expected to hold 12 cabins. The EAU concept yacht was allegedly inspired by layering and water droplets. The way the wooden planks create the tiered lines along the hull of the wooden ships is a familiar example of traditional yacht craftmanship. One of the main features of this design is the water droplet-shaped wheelhouse, which floats above the deck like an abstract sculpture.
