The world’s largest private fund founded by billionaire Bill Gates is about to receive 17.5B VND in dividends thanks to holding 1 share on the UPCoM floor

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Trust, founded by billionaire Bill Gates and his wife, is holding millions of shares of MCH – a business in the Masan Group ecosystem.

 

The Board of Directors of Masan Consumer Corporation (Masan Consumer – HoSE: MCH) has just approved a plan to pay cash dividends at a rate of 168% (each share receives VND 16,800 in dividends), with a payment period of 6 months from the date of approval by the General Meeting of Shareholders. With 728.4 million common shares, the estimated amount to be paid is more than VND 12,200 billion.

The company has sent ballots to 129 shareholders, who are holding 698.1 million voting shares, equivalent to 97.3% of the total number of voting shares.

Notably, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Trust appears on the list when it owns 1 million shares. This is the world’s largest private foundation, funded by billionaire Bill Gates – founder of Microsoft Corporation, and his wife, Melinda Gates. Investment legend Warren Buffett also participated in this fund but left after the Bill and Melinda Gates divorce.

Since 2000, the fund has spent nearly 54 billion USD on global health initiatives, poverty reduction, and most recently promoting the deployment of Covid-19 vaccines. As of December 31, 2023, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Trust has total assets of 77.2 billion USD (about 1.9 million billion VND).

With the amount of MCH shares it is holding, this fund will receive about 17.5 billion VND in dividends. Since the beginning of 2024, MCH has increased by 143.5% to VND207,000/share, helping the investment value of the fund founded by billionaire Bill Gates reach VND215 billion.

In the first 6 months of 2024, Masan Consumer recorded net revenue of VND13,968 billion, up nearly 12% over the same period. Net profit also increased by 13%, reaching VND3,402 billion, raising undistributed profit after tax to VND19,526 billion.
