On October 9, Melinda French Gates announced that she would donate $250 million to global health organizations to care for women’s health.

At least 100 nonprofits around the world will receive grants ranging from $1 million to $5 million. The deadline for organizations to apply for the grants is December 3, while the application, review and final decision process will last until the end of 2025. This process will be evaluated and evaluated by the applicants along with an independent panel of experts.

Haven Ley, Chief Strategy Officer of Pivotal Ventures, the organization founded by Melinda, emphasized that this competition for the grant is a start for a focus on women’s health globally. Previously, Pivotal Ventures mainly funded organizations promoting women’s rights in the US.

By focusing on women’s health, Melinda is expanding her definition of women’s rights, emphasizing that health is a prerequisite for women to be strong and thrive, according to Haven Ley.

Statistics show that donations to organizations that support women and girls’ rights account for less than 2% of all charitable giving in the United States. This commitment marks a new milestone in Melinda’s philanthropic career since she left the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. It is also part of a $1 billion giving plan over two years, which she announced in May, to support women and families around the world.
