Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and former TV host Lauren Sanchez have yet to wed despite being engaged since May 2023. Could a complicated prenuptial agreement with Bezos’ massive $205 billion fortune be the reason?
Bezos and Sanchez’s romance went public in 2019, around the same time Bezos announced his divorce from his wife of 25 years, MacKenzie Scott, with whom he has four children. Sanchez is also divorced from her ex-husband, agent Patrick Whitesell. She has two children with Whitesell and a son with former NFL star Tony Gonzalez.
The couple got engaged in May last year and held a lavish engagement party in November. Given Bezos’s massive fortune, everyone expected a lavish wedding, especially since Sanchez was sporting a 30-carat diamond ring. However, despite rumors of a summer wedding, they have yet to officially become husband and wife.
“Bezos is so smitten with Sanchez that he would get married tomorrow if he could, but I hear they are still working on a prenuptial agreement,” a source said. “His lawyers won’t let him go ahead with the wedding until it’s done.”
Drafting a prenuptial agreement, which protects Bezos’ finances in the event of a split, is a huge undertaking. It covers both parties’ assets, from cars to jewelry. However, Sanchez’s reps have denied any prenuptial agreement issues, saying there is “no talk” of a prenuptial agreement.
A friend of the couple said: “Everyone is wondering when the invitations will come out. Summer is obviously the ideal time, because it’s Oscar season, then Thanksgiving, and it’s going to be much harder to get all their famous friends and people who are expected to attend. So it’s hard to understand why the wedding hasn’t happened yet.” This person also affirmed: “You will not find a couple more in love than them, so the delay has nothing to do with feelings.”
