During a recent appearance at an industry event in Los Angeles, Selena Gomez defended her appearance by pointing to her ongoing health problems with an intestinal ailment known as SIBO.
The 32-year-old star of Only Murders in the Building was photographed Tuesday at the American French Film Festival’s Emilia Perez premiere at the DGA Theater Complex in Los Angeles.
In a since-deleted TikTok video, Gomez addressed a number of comments that questioned her appearance at the event.
In a TikTok comment, Gomez stated, “This makes me sick.” “My small intestine has SEBO.” It erupts.
‘I don’t care that I don’t appear like a stick figure,’ she added. That’s not my body. The narrative is over. I’m not a victim, I promise. I’m only a person.
Gomez, who co-stars with Zoe Saldana and Karla Sofía Gascón as Jessi in the upcoming movie, stated that her lupus and other health disorders sometimes cause her weight to fluctuate.
In some photos from the event, Gomez wore a black split-leg gown made of ruched fabric to the screening, with her arm wrapped around her waist. According to Elle, several fans implied that “she was hiding her body in some way.”
“The passage of food and waste products in the digestive tract slows, ‘creating a breeding ground for bacteria,'” according to the Mayo Clinic, resulting in SIBO, or small intestinal bacterial overgrowth.
According to the clinic, “symptoms include bloating, stomach pain, and malnutrition,” and the ailment is typically brought on by “surgery or disease.”
Gomez, who had a kidney replacement in 2017, received a lot of support from fans in the comments section.
One person remarked, quite fittingly, “The internet is everyone’s biggest hater,” while another posted, “They pick on her for everything, and it’s so heartbreaking.”
In a TikTok Live episode last year, Gomez discussed in depth how her water weight affects her image.
The artist disclosed, “I tend to hold a lot of water weight, and that happens very normally, and then I tend to lose weight when I’m off it.”
On her way to the Wizards Beyond Waverly Place premiere last week, Gomez posted a video of herself wearing the frock in question and casting her ballot at an official voting box.
Given that red is typically associated with the Republican Party, some fans assumed that Gomez’s red dress indicated she had voted for Donald Trump.
However, Gomez is a vocal Democrat who has publicly criticized Trump’s campaign, particularly after comedian Tony Hinchcliffe referred to Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage” during the event held at Madison Square Garden on October 27.
Mexican-American Gomez said she’strongly disagreed with any words that were uttered,’ referring to the now-disgraced comedian’s derogatory remarks about the island.
“I want to support my people,” Gomez declared.
