Jada Pinkett Smith jokes about many things, but not her family. The actress and mother of two defended Willow Smith in an interview with Net-a-Porter about the scandalous photo of her 13-year-old lying in bed with a shirtless Moisés Arias, 20.
“Just don’t pollute something clean,” she advises, shaking her head. “Very difficult. I think wider appreciation of women has declined. Even if you say, “Women have so many opportunities,” you think, “Yeah, but at what cost?”
“Are women respected for being women or for their masculinity? Men and women have both masculine and feminine energy, but the feminine isn’t appreciated.”
In an earlier interview, Pinkett Smith said, “I want my kids to be happy and themselves. I recently told a buddy, “Remember, our kids are not us.” They’re not. Sometimes we fix or project our past onto others, which is a dreadful trap.”
Jada also talked about her marriage to Will Smith, praising him and admitting that it took time to get there.
“We used to have all these rules, [but] as you go on in your relationship, you just get into a flow,” adds. “I adore being in a location where Will embraces everything. It seems like calling him’my husband’ is too tiny for what he means to me and how I think women define a husband.
I needed to grow and develop. My ideas of a spouse and wife were pretty fixed. After I broke all that, a new world opened up and I saw him in all his magnificence. It’s evolved into that. And I’m thrilled.”
Pinkett Smith claims they don’t care about their relationship’s tabloid rumors.
“The best coping approach is knowing the truth. She believes it’s OK to know that what’s going on in your house is opposite what’s being spoken and that people fill in the gaps when there’s mystery. “Looking back at how imaginative humans can be is entertaining. It’s absurd, so we laugh. But I understand. Don’t take it personally.”
