The 23-year-old actress and singer is Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s only child.
The newest star to comment on the “nepo baby” debate circulating in Hollywood is Willow Smith, who maintains that her achievement is unrelated to her parents’ backgrounds. The Wait A Minute singer debuted as an actress at the age of seven, starring in her father’s popular film I Am Legend. At the age of ten, she had her first number-one song, My Hair.
Willow has already put out five new albums, and this weekend marks the release of her sixth. Ahead of the release of Empathogen, Willow discussed her dissatisfaction with the label of nepotism during the cover shoot for the American magazine Allure.
She acknowledged, “I think that a little bit of insecurity has driven me harder because people do think that my parents are the only reason I’m successful.”
That has motivated me to put forth a lot of effort to try to disprove them. But I don’t have to prove anything to anyone anymore. “I genuinely think that I have a strong spirit and that I would still be a and a thinker even if my parents were someone else.”
Regardless of her parents’ identities, she said, the label “nepo baby” doesn’t really apply to her because she is a Black lady.
She remarked, “Being Black in America means that you’re still Black, even if you have privilege, which I will never deny I have.”
And I’m proud to be Black. “Okay, well, her parents are this and this and that, but she still is like me,” people would comment when they looked at me. She is still of brown complexion.
“And as everyone knows, that’s a place of connection, but it doesn’t exempt you from anything.” Smith said.
Will and Jada have produced several artists in addition to Willow who has achieved success as a solo artist. Jaden, her older brother, became well-known for playing Dre Parker alongside Jackie Chan in the 2010 Karate Kid reboot. Even though he made that movie at the age of 11, it wasn’t his first time on the big screen.
In the 2006 film The Pursuit of Happyness, Jaden played the on-screen son of his father at the age of eight.
Since then, he has established a lucrative rap career and operated his own apparel brand, MSFTSrep.
