Billionaire Elon Musk moved to a villa less than 300m from Mr. Trump’s residence, allowing him to comfortably visit the US president-elect.
According to the New York Times, billionaire Elon Musk is living in a villa located in the Mar-a-Lago resort (Florida state), which is considered the “headquarters” of US President-elect Donald Trump.
Mr. Musk moved to Mar-a-Lago a few days before the US presidential election on November 5, 2024 and has hardly left this place. The villa of the richest billionaire in the world is called Banyan, less than 300m from the building where Mr. Trump lives.
Thanks to living “next door” to Mr. Trump, Mr. Musk has had the opportunity to regularly meet, even interrupt important meetings or phone calls with Mr. Trump since the election day.
Typically, in mid-December, Mr. Musk was present at a dinner between Mr. Trump and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos – owner of the aerospace technology company Blue Origin – the main rival of SpaceX owned by Mr. Musk.
Before that, when Mr. Trump had just won the election, the Tesla boss also unexpectedly joined the middle of a phone call between Mr. Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Moving to live right in Mr. Trump’s mansion gives Mr. Musk the conditions to promote his role as a special advisor on policy issues and personnel selection for Mr. Trump. The New York Times confirmed that he often spent hours talking with Mr. Trump in the president-elect’s office.
In fact, Mr. Musk is not the only member of Mr. Trump’s team to visit Mar-a-Lago in recent times. Vice President-elect JD Vance and many other incoming cabinet members have also spent many days at Mar-a-Lago in recent weeks.
Still, Musk remains the most visible presence at Trump’s side, even bringing at least one of his many children and the child’s nanny to live with him.
The Tesla boss will likely stay at Mar-a-Lago until Trump takes office and moves into the White House on January 20. By then, he won’t be able to see Trump as easily as he does now.
